----------------------------- on saturday bekah and i finally went to chicago food corp.; now i wish i hadn't waited so long to make the trek. it was just last week that i realized it's right off the blue line belmont stop, making it super accessible. the only problem with chicago foods being an el ride away is that they carry a lot of fresh fish and other perishable food that i'd like to buy but might spoil on a train home, especially in warmer weather. they had half-pints of flying fish roe and pre-cut sashimi platters for really cheap, but i wouldn't buy them unless i had a ride straight back to a refrigerator. their "salad bar" was full of wonderfully pungent dishes that might be served as appetizer salads at a korean restaurant. however, i skipped them all as well, maybe next time. i also wanted to buy more kimchi, i finished my last batch, but the smallest size they carried was a five pound jar. the only spoilable thing i bought was a big bag of vegetable beef dumplings, which we cooked up in a hot sesame oil and rice vinegar mixture for dinner later in the evening. sooooo gooooood! i can see gyoza becoming a regular meal; they're so easy to make. and chicago foods' selection was outstanding: four or five freezer cases devoted to frozen dumplings alone. comparing prices on several items, it didn't take long to realize how cheap this place is, especially when compared to mitsuwa. of course, they stocked more korean staples than japanese, but it seemed well rounded, representing a nice range of asian food. my purchases were: + a box of korean ginseng tea total: $17.77 both of the chocolate snacky things i bought were made by lotte; the miffy cookies were just like koala yummies (also made by lotte), only less hollow. i can't wait to go back, i had much fun shopping chicago foods. the atmosphere was lively: crowded and buzzing. lots of bulk goods and traditionally hard-to-find items. it seemed like every other thing i saw made me say to myself, "oh, i'd like to buy that next time, when i don't have to carry everything home on the train." * posted by j3s 2002.April.01Do you know anywhere you can buy Koala Yummies in the USA? My roommate's girlfriend keeps going on and on about them, but she can't find them anywhere. I'd love to get them to surprise her! * posted by Kat may 22, 2002 05:56 pmBig Fat Stinky Cock in a girls lovin face like a disgrace * posted by Clobber Simpson september 28, 2002 02:26 pmI also love koala yummiess. I recently found them at a local 7-11 convienience store. But the are no longer called koala yummies. They call them Koala's March. The only reason I know that they're the same is because these are made by lotte. * posted by Emily april 8, 2003 04:30 pmkoala yummies? koalas march!i have heard of them before and now i am on a conquest to find them, i am a cow, i am the skinniest person i kno and i eat more then anybody i kno. recently i was searching for dunkaroos, my food searches generally go like this... i find a food that i am craving, first i check the stores then i check online and if i can find where they are sold or i can get them off the internet then i get a box or two or 100. then i go on to finding another food snack. last was dunkaroos now onto koala yummies, then perhaps hobknobs, i only have one box left and they quit selling them at the store where i used to get them...actually they are only sold in britain and i agree fuck corporate groceries! * posted by Lia may 22, 2004 09:48 pmPost a comment
