-----------------------------

now that the weather's starting to be decent, my interest in starting an herb garden has renewed itself. we have a nice back porch with parts that get tons of sun; my other plants loved it last year, flourished.

i've given it some thought, and decided to buy two large pots: one for the sun-loving herbs (basil, rosemary, dill, chives) and a separate one for the shady guys (mint, thyme). primarily, i'm interested in growing fresh basil for salad caprese, and because i love the way my hands smell when i've been cooking with it.

eventually i would love to grow some veggies as well; one of my fave classes in college was home vegetable gardening. but we don't have much of a backyard, just a weedy dustpatch, so that will have to wait. however, my mom grows nice tomatoes and green beans, allowing me to live vicariously through her this year.

anyway, i'd like to go shopping for seeds soon, and dirt. how nice it will be to have dirt stuck under fingernails again.

some herby links:

- an informative herb chart

- how to germinate specific types of seeds

- henriette's herbal homepage has several great faq's and thousands of plant pictures.

- how to dry herbs
